In his blog, just as with his numerous and excellent books, (Linchpin, Tribes, Purple Cow etc.) Seth has an unparalleled capacity to offer up insights and ideas that challenge, provoke and support us all to do more Great Work. It is quite an honour that Seth has contributed an original piece to Do More Great Work.

Kevin Wilde

Kevin WildeThis week I’ll be spending time at the conference of the American Society of Training and Development, which is why I’ve selected a Chief Learning Officer to feature in the Great Work interview.

Kevin Wilde is the vice president of Organizational Effectiveness and the chief learning officer at General Mills.  And he’s not just any old learning officer. In 2007, Chief Learning Officer Magazine selected Kevin as the CLO of the year.  Kevin has been  with General Mills for about ten years and prior to that he worked with General Electric.  The impact of his leadership at General Mills has been felt.  Fortune ranked General Mills at number six,  one of best companies in the world at leadership development.  Training Magazine ranked it at number five  as a top company for employee development.

That’s not an accident, as you’ll see from the wisdom and insight Kevin brings to this conversation. In this interview we discuss:

  • How a fortuitous car ride with Jack Welsh changed how he worked with senior leaders
  • Where the balance is between “derailment factors” and a person’s strengths
  • A key insight for success for any manager to do more Great Work
  • The importance in strategic planning of starting  with what inspires
  • And two fantastic stories from his time as an ultramarathoner.

Gay Hendricks

gayhendricks

What’s powerful about Gay Hendricks’ life purpose is the strong connection to what it is – “to expand in love and creativity every day as I inspire other people who are interested to do the same thing” – and to what he does.  He is the author of many bestsellers, including Conscious Loving and The Corporate Mystic and his newest book, The Big Leap published today.  After more than twenty years as a professor at the University of Colorado he founded The Hendricks Institute which now offers seminars across the world.  And in 2003 he co-founded The Spiritual Cinema Circle, which distributes inspirational movies to subscribers in over seventy countries around the world.  In this interview we talk about:

- The power of “wonder questions”
- Why you should be a connoisseur of verbs
- The chemistry of the drama triangle
- And much more.

And don’t forget to check out Gay’s new book, The Big Leap.  I’ve had a chance to read a pre-publication copy which is terrific and right on the ball for anyone interested in Great Work.

This interview is approximately 20 minutes long.
